JR EASTRail PASS Search Privacy Policy
Enacted April 1, 2024
The Company obtains information of Users (hereinafter “User Information”) through the provision of the Service. Such User Information shall be handled as follows.
Capitalized terms used and not otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy shall have the meanings given such terms in the JR EAST Rail PASS Search Terms of Use.
Article 1 (User Information Collected by Service)
The Company collects User Information via the Service in the following manners.
a. Information provided by Users
“Information provided by Users” refers to all information provided by the Users incidental to the provision of the Service or transactions with the Company. This includes, but not limited to, origins and destinations entered when using the search function.
b. Information that is collected via technology when using the Service
i. Device information
The Service collects information about the devices used by Users. This includes information such as device type, the device’s OS version, and device settings.
ii. Log information
When using the Service, information exchanged between the Users and the Service is automatically recorded in the server. Such information includes pages viewed, advertising history, browsing time, browsing method, device usage environment, IP address, and cookie information. For more information about cookies, please refer to the “Cookie Policy” below.
iii. Location information
When the use of location information is enabled, information about a User’s current location may be collected and processed. Information regarding a User’s current location is determined using the location information (GPS information or beacon information, etc.) of the User’s device.
Article 2 (Purposes of Use of User Information)
The Company may use User Information obtained through the Service for the following purposes.
a. Concluding and fulfilling contracts including the provision of the Service, managing contracts after they have been concluded, and providing customer service for the provided Service
b. Receiving and responding to inquiries and opinions from the Users
c. Providing information on the Service and on the businesses operated by the Company and its Group companies listed in the Company’s annual securities reports, etc. (Specific details of the businesses are announced in a manner prescribed by the Company (on its website, etc.)).
d. Maintaining and managing facilities, equipment, and devices necessary for the provision of the Service, and managing the status of their use
e. Ensuring the security of the Users, and studying and developing software, systems, equipment, devices, etc. related to ensuring security
f. Improving and enhancing the Service and developing new features
g. Studying and developing new products and services, as well as software, systems, equipment, devices, etc. to provide these products and services
h. Conducting market research and other surveys and studies
i. Distributing notices from the Company and third parties requested by the Company, providing advertisements, and conducting marketing
Article 3 (Provision of User Information to Third Parties)
1. The Company may publish or provide statistical information to companies, organizations, or individuals other than the Company by extracting items related to common elements and aggregating them into similar categories, thereby creating User Information statistics related to the usage trends (frequency of use, search results, etc.) of multiple Users on the Service.
2. The Company may provide location information to linked companies when a User transitions to the service available through a linked service.
3. In addition to the preceding two paragraphs and other provisions of the Privacy Policy, User Information shall not be provided to any company, organization, or individual outside of the Company, except in the following cases.
a. Provision with the User’s consent
The Company may provide User Information to companies, organizations, or individuals outside of the Company with the consent of the User.
b. Provision on the basis of an outsourcing arrangement
The Company may provide User Information to other companies or individuals as part of the outsourcing of administrative processes. In such cases, the Company will require the contractor to comply with this Privacy Policy and to take appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
c. Provision in accordance with laws and regulations, etc.
In the event that the Company determines that access, use, storage, or disclosure of User Information by a company, organization, or individual other than the Company is reasonably necessary for any of the following reasons, the Company shall provide that information to said company, organization, or individual.
i. When it is in accordance with applicable laws, rules, etc.
ii. When it is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User concerned.
iii. When it is particularly necessary for the sake of improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the User concerned
iv. When it is necessary for the sake of cooperating with a national agency, local government, or an individual or entity entrusted by either a national agency or local government to execute affairs prescribed by laws and regulations, and obtaining the consent of the User concerned is likely to impede the execution of such matters.
Article 4 (Use of Information Collection Modules)
The Service incorporates the information collection modules of the third parties listed below, and such third parties may obtain User Information for the purposes of use of User Information as set forth in Article 2. In addition to agreeing to the provisions of the Terms, the Users also consents to the use and retention of User Information by such third parties for the purpose of providing and improving the third parties’ services related to the Service in accordance with the privacy policies established by the third parties.

Article 5 (Joint Use of User Information)
The Company and entities listed in Item b below will jointly use User Information held by each of them in accordance with the following.
a. User Information items to be jointly used
Device information, log information, location information, and all information provided by Users incidental to the provision of the Service or transactions with the Company
b. Scope of joint users
Group companies of the Company listed in the Company’s annual securities reports, etc.
c. Purposes of use
To fulfill the purposes listed in Article 2 Items c, g, and h
d. Name of entity responsible for management of personal data
